I Had A Dream...That Someone Was Baking Cookies

Jarrah: Is it Sunday?

Sam: Yes! And tomorrow is Monday. Normally, you would go to school on Monday, but tomorrow is a holiday for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Did you learn about him in school?

Jarrah: Yeah.

Sam: You did? What did you learn?

Jarrah: We read a book...and he wroted the book.

Sam: What was the book about?

Jarrah: It was a book about smelling.

Sam: (wide-eyed) Smelling? What about smelling?

Jarrah: I don't know.

Sounds so much like something that one of my students might say! At least on some days it feels that way! What a cute little story.

That MLK was a man of many talents--a book on smelling! Incredible. Glad Jarrah is learning so much. :)

My banker told me yesterday that his son thought the bad guy in Star Wars was called "Dark Invader." This is one of the best parts of parenting.

Laura floored me with her brilliance by answering a question while she watched Who Wants to Be a Millionaire recently (Q: What was the name of the ship that started out with the Mayflower but then sank? A: The Speedwell. Who knew? Laura, that's who.). A few days later I was looking through "our" office for a blank journal to take to a class, and I found one in which Laura had written, "Martin Luther King was an important man. He freed the slaves." So much for the brilliance.

Love this posts, like all others.
