Day Eight: Tag with Snacks

Jessica tagged me this morning and since I'm extremely crabby today and there is a snack component to this meme, I'm going to go for it.

What were you doing ten years ago?

Eh bien, those University Heights days...I was sweltering in my bachelorette pad on Cleveland Ave. and working at UCSD Extension teaching conversational English to visiting Japanese university students. I was happy and busy. I was preparing to be the maid of honor for my sister's wedding in a few weeks. And, lo, though it were not known to me, I would be meeting my husband soon, at the aforementioned wedding.

5 things on today's to-do list:

1. Try not to be crabby that Jarrah has a constant cough and we are stuck at home when we were supposed to be out gallivanting with Amy and Steph.

2. Read New York Times on the terrace overlooking the ocean in a filmy peignoir while the butler serves me flaky croissants and French haute chocolat from a silver urn.

3. Personal training session with Billy Blanks in my home gym--the bliss of those squats and lunges!

4. Long bubblebath in my antique clawfoot tub with Chanel bath bomb, followed by a massage in the sun room.

5. Starting at 3:00, let the hair, makeup and style people work their magic to turn me out for tonight's red carpet premiere.

Snacks I enjoy:

Black licorice
Rowntree Fruit Pastilles (available in England, Canada and Australia)
General Foods International French Vanilla Cafe (available at Target and fine supermarkets)
Chewy molasses ginger cookies
Watermelon, cherries, sliced cucumber and red/yellow/green peppers (because I'm sounding a bit pathetic here.)

Places I've lived:

New York, NY
Lawton, OK
Corona del Mar, CA
Northampton, MA
Boston, MA
Hampstead, London
San Diego, CA

People I'm tagging:

Miss J and Caroline B. (because I think they'll do it! :))

Rhinonymous: I've been tagged

I appreciate it. I've been in a particularly hermity mood all week and needed some prodding. :)

Thanks for the tag, Miss Samantha! Since my blog is password protected, I thought I'd put my answers down right here. ;-) xo Miss J

What were you doing ten years ago?

Living with my spouse in a 1-bedroom apartment in Pacific Beach and beginning to notice that I was getting older but my neighbors weren’t. Lamenting the fact that I couldn’t afford to buy a house (where I imagined it would be blissfully quiet) because I was 2 years into what would be a 5-year marathon stint on the academic job market and was teaching for a pittance as an adjunct at UCSD and San Diego State. Feeling still a bit stunned that I was then 30 years old and wasn’t sure where my twenties went.

5 things on today's to-do list:

1. Find fun things to do with Sage that take place in air conditioning. Probably the mall.

2. Convince her to try on shoes, since her Crocs are two sizes two small.

3. Suppress guilt over giving her a 2-hour nap in the car with the engine and air conditioner running.

4. Suppress guilt over letting her eat goldfish crackers and American cheese for lunch.

5. Take myself shopping as a reward for successfully suppressing guilt all day.

Snacks I enjoy:

Chocolate-covered popcorn
Strawberry licorice
Pringles
Chips and guacamole
Anything swiped from my daughter’s plate

[Snacks I actually eat; can you tell I’m dieting?]

Cashews
Dried apples with almonds
Carrots and hummus

Places I've lived:

Sacramento, CA
Honolulu, HI
El Toro, CA
Balboa Island, CA
La Jolla, CA
San Diego, CA
Pacific Beach, CA
Portland, ME

Miss J, I love your guilt-themed to-do list!

Jarrah's Crocs are also two sizes too small. Yet the next size is ginormous. What's up with that?

I know what you mean about the Crocs, Sam. We ended up getting her some Pollywalks, which have little frog faces on the toes. She likes 'em fine!
